According to the Kremlin, Putin clearly expressed Moscow’s principled position in favor of stepping up political and diplomatic initiatives aimed at ensuring the security and stability of the region, including matters related to Iran.
The two sides held detailed discussions on the current situation in the Middle East and the developments surrounding Iran.
The Russian side reaffirmed its firm readiness to persist in mediation efforts and to actively promote constructive dialogue among all relevant parties.
“The Russian side confirmed its commitment to continuing making mediation efforts and promoting a constructive dialogue involving all concerned parties,” the Kremlin statement said.
The statement added that both Putin and Netanyahu agreed to continue contacts at various levels.
The call took place against the backdrop of rising regional tensions sparked by threats of possible US military action against Iran.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly declared his support for violent rioters inside Iran, after peaceful protests turned into riots following blatant interference by the US and Israel, although he adopted a somewhat milder tone in comments made at the White House late Wednesday.
Iranian authorities, meanwhile, have firmly condemned the United States and Israeli regime for instigating and financing the riots and acts of terrorism within the country.
