Minnesota Protests ICE Shooting Following Second Incident in A Week

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Minnesota residents have once again taken to the streets in protest, following a second incident in a week where an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot a man.

The protests stem from the recent shooting, which occurred during an ICE arrest operation, leaving the man with a leg wound.

This latest shooting follows a similar incident on the same day, prompting renewed calls for the deportation of ICE personnel from the city.

ICE officers reportedly responded to protesters with tear gas.

Mayor Jacob Frey condemned ICE’s actions in Minnesota, stating their actions have destabilized the city. He noted that ICE officers have been involved in over 50% of shootings in Minnesota this year. “I must unequivocally state that the conduct of ICE officers in Minneapolis is intolerable,” Frey declared.

Prior to this, a woman in Minnesota was fatally shot by an ICE officer during an operation, triggering mixed reactions from local and federal officials. The Department of Homeland Security stated that the woman allegedly attempted to attack officers with a vehicle, leading to the officer shooting her in self-defense. However, local authorities refuted this claim.

This recent event underscores a recurring pattern of tension and protests surrounding the presence of ICE officers in Minnesota. The city has seen multiple incidents involving misconduct by ICE personnel, leading to heightened concerns about civil liberties and the rights of immigrants. Residents have expressed outrage and a desire to hold law enforcement accountable.
