Fans can now view a shortlist of 42 contenders and select their all-time dream squad. The public vote will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the Final Dream XI of the AFC Asian Cup.

A legend of the game, Ali Daei brought his goalscoring prowess to the AFC Asian Cup and took Iran to third-placed finishes in 1996 and 2004.

His four-goal haul against Korea Republic in 1996, on his way to winning the Golden Boot, remains one of the most memorable performances in the competition’s history.

The striker netted 14 goals across three editions and is the AFC Asian Cup all-time top scorer.

Take a glimpse at the careers of the 12 nominees:

Ali Daei – Iran, Younis Mahmoud – Iraq, Lee Dong-gook – Korea Republic, Naohiro Takahara – Japan, Yasser Al Qahtani – Saudi Arabia, Jassem Al Houwaidi – Kuwait, Tim Cahill – Australia, Ali Mabkhout – UAE, Akram Afif – Qatar, Almoez Ali – Qatar, Son Heung-min – Korea Republic and Majed Abdullah – Saudi Arabia
