Iran Condemns Israeli Destruction of Palestinian Houses in Bethlehem

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry took a swipe at the Zionist regime for demolishing two houses in the West Bank city of Bethlehem under the pretext of construction without a permit, saying it is a bitter irony that the original owners of Palestine have to ask the occupiers for permission.

In a post on his Twitter account on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani lashed out at the Israeli regime for destroying two houses in Beit Jala and al-Walaja in northwest of Bethlehem under the pretext of construction without a permit despite the fact that an owner of one of the houses had an Israeli court order allowing him to continue work on his house.

Beit Jala mayor, Issa Qassis, said that the Zionist forces demolished a one-story house that was under construction located in the Cremisan area, near the Arab Rehabilitation Society Hospital, owned by a local resident under the pretext of not having a permit.

“What a bitter humor; The original owners of the land -Palestinians- have to ask the occupier for a construction permit! The occupier does not give it, because it considers it a disturbance to the development of Zionist settlements!! So they destroy!!!,” Kanaani said in his tweet.

He slammed such brutal Israeli acts and the Western governments’ muted response as “a view of Western human rights”.

In another tweet, the Iranian spokesman said, “Last January, 35 Palestinians were martyred by Zionist regime in different areas of the West Bank. Another view of the West's support for human rights.”

While the United Nations said 2022 was the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank since 2005, with at least 170 people killed, the number of Palestinians killed by Israel in January puts 2023 on track to exceed that figure.
