Team Melli qualified for semifinals round and will play South Korea on Thursday. The Iranian women also advanced to the 2021 World Women's Handball Championship as one of the six Asian teams.
Iran started the competition with a 23-20 loss against Japan but defeated Kuwait 38-11, Palestine 52-9 and Jordan 28-22 in Group B, respectively.
South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are in Group A.
The 2021 Asian Women's Handball Championship is being held in Jordan from September 15 to 25.
It also acts as the qualification tournament for the 2021 World Women's Handball Championship, with the top six teams from the championship directly qualifying for the event to be held in Spain.
On August 9, 2020, the Asian Handball Federation decided to postpone the championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the championship was scheduled to take place from December 10 to 22, 2020.
On August 3, 2021, the AHF announced to move the event from South Korea to Jordan due to the pandemic.
