Two Kids Killed in Syria’s Qamishli As Clashes Continue

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Two Syrian children were killed and dozens wounded as heavy fighting between US-backed Kurdish forces and the pro-Syrian troops entered its fourth day in Qamishli.

According to local reports, a ten-year-old and a 12-year-old were killed during Friday's clashes between the pro-Syrian government National Defence Forces (NDF) and Kurdish Asayish forces.

"The result of the clashes happening at Qamishli, especially in my district Tayy and Halkou, is that around 44 people were hit in the attack, 11 of those were killed. The injuries vary. Some were hit in the heart, stomach, chest, and some even have brain damage," Omar Al Aabob, director of the Qamishli National Hospital said.

Fighting broke out on Tuesday night amid a Russian-brokered ceasefire. Qamishli mostly remains under the control of the Kurdish forces, while the NDF is present in the area of the airport and some neighborhoods.

The Syrian state news agency SANA said Tuesday that the Kurdish forces opened fire at demonstrators protesting the siege on their neighborhood in Hassakeh city.

In both Hassakeh and Qamishli cities, they share control with government forces— which have presence in security zones, near the airport and in some neighborhoods.

The Kurdish forces are backed by the US-led coalition, with which they usually smuggle Syrian crude oil and wheat crops for the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region in northern Iraq.
