Iran President Slams Trump’s Golan Recognition

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s “unilateral” decision to officially recognize Syria’s occupied Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

“No one could imagine that a man in the United States would unilaterally grant a piece of land belonging to a certain nation to a usurper in violation of international law,” Rouhani said on Tuesday in a meeting in Tehran with a number of Iranian cabinet ministers and executive officials.

He described the move by Trump as “unprecedented in the current century”.

On Monday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani also condemned the move by Trump, saying that the US president has violated international regulations.

On Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister expressed shock over the decision by the New York real estate mogul in a tweet, saying, “All shocked by @realDonaldTrump continuing to try to give what is not his to racist Israel: first Al-Quds & now Golan”.

Breaking with decades of international consensus, Trump on Monday formally recognized Israeli “sovereignty” over the occupied Golan Heights, a border area the Tel Aviv regime seized from Syria in 1967.
