Bahraini Regime Continues Arresting Rights Activists

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Manama regime, in yet another move to silence voices of dissent, arrested a number of civil and human rights activists in several districts in the Persian Gulf country, local reports said.

The Bahraini security forces arrested Morteza Ali Khalaf, a young activist from Sar district west of Manama, and Fazel Khamis from Nabih Saleh south of the capital, the Arabic-language Lualua TV network reported.

In another move to crack down on the Bahrain human rights activists, the Al Khalifa regime forces attacked several districts, including Al Musalla on the western outskirts of the capital, Manama, and Buri in northeastern Bahrain.

The Bahraini citizens detained on political grounds are usually taken to the “notorious” Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) office for interrogation, according to the report.

Thousands of anti-regime protesters have held demonstrations in Bahrain on an almost daily basis ever since a popular uprising began in the country in mid-February 2011.

They are demanding that the Al Khalifah dynasty relinquish power and allow a just system representing all Bahrainis to be established.

Manama has gone to great lengths to clamp down on any sign of dissent. On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were deployed to assist Bahrain in its crackdown.

Scores of people have lost their lives and hundreds of others sustained injuries or got arrested as a result of the Al Khalifah regime’s crackdown.
