President: Iran Ready for Persian Gulf-Black Sea Link Project

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced the country’s readiness to help the implementation of a project to link the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea by offering technical assistance to neighboring Armenia.

In a meeting with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandyan in Tehran on Sunday, President Rouhani hailed the good opportunities available for the promotion of Tehran-Yerevan cooperation in the transportation industry.

“Today, there are proper conditions for linking the Black Sea to the Persian Gulf via Armenia,” Rouhani explained, adding that to that end, Tehran is ready to provide Armenia with technical and engineering services.

He further reiterated Iran’s call for peace, stability and calm in the region, urging cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

The Armenian minister, for his part, expressed Yerevan’s enthusiasm for closer relations with Tehran.

He also noted that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), has provided better conditions for stronger ties, as well as regional peace and stability.

Nalbandyan had a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif earlier in the day.
