Syrian Culture Minister Calls Terrorism in Syria ‘A Zionist Plot’

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian Culture Minister Issam Khalil warned against a plot hatched by the Zionist regime of Israel to sow discord among Arab countries, saying that terrorism in Syria, Iraq, Libya and some other Middle Eastern and African countries is part of the plot.

“When we are facing terrorism on Syrian soil, actually we are struggling with Zionist plot,” Khalil said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency.

He added that countering terrorism and chaos in some other countries, like Iraq, Libya and Yemen is “nothing other than countering a Zionist plot”.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIL or ISIS), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

The Syrian minister further highlighted the issue of Palestine, and said all Arab nations should unite against the Tel Aviv regime and support Palestinian nation and the holy Quds.

He made the remarks on the occasion of the Palestinian Land Day on March 30. The event marks the 1976 deadly Israeli attacks on Palestinians who were protesting against the confiscation of their land.
