Iranian, Ecuadorian Presidents Discuss Closer Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Ecuadorian counterpart, Rafael Correa, stressed the need for further efforts to boost relations between the two countries in various economic and political areas.

During the meeting held in New York on Sunday afternoon, President Rouhani said the Islamic Republic is ready to promote its relations with the Latin American nation in economic, scientific, and cultural fields.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani emphasized that if developing countries side with one another, world powers cannot “bully” them.

“Independent nations should have a single voice in international circles, including the United Nations, so that (world) powers become aware that nations are not alone,” he said.

Correa, for his part, pointed to the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) and said the Ecuadorian government and people are happy that Iran managed to resist againsd world powers firmly.

Iran and the Group 5+1 on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.
