During a special ceremony held in the Iranian capital city on Monday, the mayors of Tehran and Budapest, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Istvan Tarlos, signed the treaty.
In his remarks during the ceremony, Qalibaf hailed the agreement and described Hungary as a country that has a significant status culturally, economically, and industrially.
He added that the ground has been set for signing similar treaties with cities in other European countries.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Qalibaf said, "Our approach is to introduce Tehran as a global city," noting that the city is known as an Islamic and Shiite center and a tourism hub.
Sister-city relationship is a form of legal and social agreement between towns, cities or even counties, in geographically and politically distinct areas to promote cultural and commercial ties.
