Al Mayadeen reported, citing the high-ranking Iranian source, that Western media outlets are publishing inaccurate accounts of the details of Mohsen Rezaei’s meeting with Putin in Moscow.
The source described as “completely fabricated” all reports claiming that Rezaei has put forward a new political initiative during his meeting with the Russian president.
According to the source, the main focus of the Moscow talks was ending the war. Rezaei explained that Tehran would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz before its seven conditions are met and that it would not negotiate over this decision.
The source further stressed that Iran considers no step toward advancing diplomacy useful unless all seven conditions are implemented fully and simultaneously.
The remarks come as Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that any progress in negotiations with the US depends on Washington's acceptance of Tehran's conditions.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said recently that Iran has repeatedly and clearly communicated its seven conditions to mediators, stressing that no progress could be made without their acceptance. He also said Washington's carrot-and-stick policy would have no effect on Iran.
Iran's stated conditions include the lifting of sanctions, the unfreezing of Iranian assets and an end to hostilities on all fronts, including the Israeli regime's military campaign in Lebanon.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has likewise stressed that Washington must meet Tehran's demands if it seeks progress in negotiations or an arrangement concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
