Speaking to Tasnim, Mojtaba Ferdowsipoor said the meeting’s final statement, which called for continued consultations on regional peace and security, showed that the participating countries were serious about pursuing cooperation.
He said the initiative could develop into broader formats if it moves beyond declarations to practical action.
Ferdowsipoor also said Iran-Egypt relations are on a positive trajectory, citing his appointment as ambassador as a sign of both countries’ willingness to upgrade ties. The envoy said consultations are continuing at various levels and Tehran remains in favor of fully restoring diplomatic relations, based on mutual respect and non-interference.
On tensions between Iran and the US, the ambassador welcomed Egypt’s efforts to promote dialogue and de-escalation, while stressing that any mediation must respect Iran’s sovereignty, national interests and right to uranium enrichment. He said Tehran remains open to serious diplomacy but would not negotiate under pressure or threats.
He said Iran supports a regional security arrangement led by countries in West Asia, arguing that foreign military involvement has failed to bring stability. Ferdowsipoor added that Tehran is ready to join any inclusive regional mechanism that is not directed against any country.
Regarding Yemen and Gaza, the ambassador said the Yemen conflict has no military solution and called for Saudi-Yemeni dialogue and broader intra-Yemeni talks. He welcomed Egypt’s mediation efforts in Gaza but said lasting progress requires coordinated international pressure to end the blockade, ensure unimpeded humanitarian aid and hold the Israeli regime accountable for its actions.
