Israel Continued Genocide in Gaza despite Ceasefire, UN Commission Says

Israel continued committing genocide in Gaza after the US-brokered ceasefire took effect last October, according to a report published Monday by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East al-Quds, and Israel, which documented ongoing violations against Palestinian children and further deterioration in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli regime dismissed the findings as part of a “misinformation campaign,” rejecting accusations that its actions amounted to genocide.
The report examined violations against Palestinian children from the start of the aggression on Gaza by the occupation regime on October 7, 2023, through September 2026.
It found that Israeli authorities had continued committing “genocidal acts with the genocidal intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinians in Gaza,” while conditions in the occupied West Bank had also continued to deteriorate.
The latest findings follow a report issued by the commission in September last year, which concluded that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza and that senior Israeli officials, including prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had incited these acts — accusations Israel described as scandalous.
The commission found that Israeli forces continued using heavy munitions, drones, quadcopters, artillery and sniper fire in densely populated areas of Gaza during the ceasefire, raising further concerns about the continued violence against Palestinians despite the truce.
Meanwhile, the report said the so-called "Yellow Line," initially presented as a temporary ceasefire demarcation, had increasingly encroached into Gaza and was becoming a de facto border, reflecting Israel’s expanding territorial control over the besieged enclave.
The findings come as Palestinian authorities report that more than 74,000 people have been killed in Israel’s assault on Gaza.
Beyond Gaza, the commission reported a sharp deterioration in the occupied West Bank, where the number of Palestinians killed in airstrikes rose from six between 2008 and October 6, 2023, to 254 between October 7, 2023, and September 30, 2026.
Commission Chair Srinivasan Muralidhar said the intentional killing of Palestinian civilians and the destruction of homes in the West Bank formed part of a broader strategy to exterminate and displace Palestinians.
The report also found that military operations since January 2025 had caused the largest displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank since 1967, with 34,176 Palestinians still displaced as of August 2026.
In a separate finding, the commission criticized the Palestinian Authority for targeting Palestinians who expressed dissenting views and reported that journalists and human rights defenders had been killed and injured.
