Quadripartite Tehran Meeting A ‘Practical Step’ toward Endogenous Security: Spokesman

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Baqaei said the four-party meeting, made possible by diplomatic initiatives and the agreement of Iran, represents a practical step toward consultations and cooperation on regional security mechanisms based on shared interests.

He said the meeting could serve as a prelude to further efforts to establish endogenous security, a principle Iran has consistently emphasized for decades.

“Developments over the past two years have shown that sustainable and reliable security in our region cannot be achieved without building trust among regional countries,” Baqaei said.

He added that Iran’s longstanding emphasis on endogenous security reflects the reality that lasting stability in the Middle East can only be achieved by relying on the capabilities, will and security considerations of the countries in the region themselves.

Baqaei expressed hope that the meeting would lay the groundwork for broader cooperation toward that goal.

He said the talks between the three visiting officials and Iran’s president and secretary of the Supreme National Security Council would cover a range of issues, including Palestine, the Israeli regime’s expansionism and Lebanon.

Asked about the consequences of US aggression, Baqaei said such a meeting could not be held without taking them into account, adding that the issue would certainly be among the topics discussed.

Earlier, Ali Baqeri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, announced that Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin would travel to Tehran for the meeting.
