French City of Orleans Imposes Curfew on Minors Ahead of National Rally Congress

Mayor Serge Grouard announced on Saturday that the measure would apply across the municipality from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, French broadcaster BFMTV reported.

Grouard said the preventive measure was intended to maintain public order, reduce the risk of unrest and ensure public safety during the planned gatherings.

The curfew comes as thousands of people prepare to demonstrate against the National Rally congress, which is taking place ahead of next year’s presidential election.

A counter-protest is also expected, with concerns over public security heightened following riots last weekend.

Meanwhile, police seized several items during an operation at the Orleans toll plaza on Friday night, including petanque balls, a replica rifle, a hockey stick and a knife, according to reports.
