Yemen’s armed forces announced six military operations against targets inside Saudi Arabia over a 48-hour period, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Abha Airport, Aramco facilities in Yanbu and the Shaybah oil field, as Saudi authorities reported explosions in the capital on Tuesday and the Saudi-led coalition acknowledged a ballistic missile launch from Yemen toward Riyadh.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen’s armed forces, said Tuesday that the operations involved ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones and described them as retaliatory attacks.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense activated early-warning systems in Riyadh and Al-Kharj province on Tuesday, alerting residents to a potential threat.
The warnings were followed by reports of air defense activity and several loud explosions in the Saudi capital.
The Saudi-led coalition acknowledged that a ballistic missile had been launched from Yemen toward Riyadh, claiming that its forces had intercepted the projectile.
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense later announced that “the danger in Riyadh has passed,” without providing further details about the threat or its origin.
