Iran, Russia Resolved to Deepen Strategic Ties

Speaking at a joint press conference in Tehran on Monday following talks with Lavrov, Araqchi described their meeting as highly productive, saying bilateral relations have taken on new dimensions following the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty.

The two sides discussed regional and international developments, as well as practical ways to expand political, cultural and trade relations, Araqchi said, adding that economic cooperation is progressing well.

He noted that Iran and Russia maintain close cooperation on regional issues and have exchanged views on developments in the Persian Gulf, the Caucasus, Europe and Ukraine.

“Our shared view is that regional issues have no military solution and must be pursued through political means,” Araqchi said.

The Iranian foreign minister added that the two sides have also discussed Palestine and Yemen, stressing that the genocide of Palestinians must be stopped.

Araqchi said the talks have addressed insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, which he attributed to the US and Israeli aggression. He also expressed serious concern over security developments in the Caspian Sea and attacks on vessels there, warning that such incidents could have serious consequences for regional peace.

He emphasized that continued cooperation between Iran and Russia could play a constructive role in promoting regional stability.

Araqchi further said the two countries would continue cooperating on international issues, noting their shared opposition to US unilateralism and their efforts to promote multilateralism through international institutions.

He also highlighted continued cooperation within the BRICS group and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), reaffirming Tehran’s determination to maintain and strengthen ties with Moscow.

For his part, Lavrov said Russia is committed to continuing cooperation with Iran, adding that the two countries have an excellent foundation for further advancing their relations.

He described the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty as an important document underpinning bilateral cooperation.

Lavrov also said Russia has sent humanitarian assistance to the Iranian people during the US-Israeli war of aggression and would continue supplying food products.

Noting the good relations between the authorities of the two countries, the Russian foreign minister invited Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to attend a gas summit in Russia in the coming days.
