Libya Security Essential for Peace in North Africa: Araqchi

In a meeting on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baghdad on Saturday, Araqchi and Libya’s acting foreign minister Taher al-Baour reviewed bilateral relations between Tehran and Tripoli and underscored the importance of strengthening consultations to develop ties between the two countries.

Araqchi reiterated Iran’s principled position in support of Yemen’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the need to halt any foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs.

The top Iranian diplomat also stressed that security and stability in Libya are prerequisites for peace and stability across North Africa.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional developments and issues facing the Muslim world.

Turning to Palestine, Araqchi described the Palestinian issue as the highest priority for the Muslim world and the international community, citing the continued occupation and genocide by the Zionist regime in Palestine.

He called on the OIC to take urgent and serious action to end the genocide in Gaza and bring an end to the Israeli regime’s impunity.
