Iranian Female Taekwondo Fighter Secures Asian Games Medal

Moradi, Iran’s final taekwondo representative in action on the day, opened her campaign against Tamyrys Suleymanova of Kyrgyzstan after receiving a first-round bye.

She defeated Suleymanova 2-0, winning the opening round 9-1 and the second 13-1, to book her place in the semifinals and guarantee at least a bronze medal.

Moradi then defeated Wei Chia Wang of Chinese Taipei 2-0 in the semifinal, winning 9-1 in the first round and 13-1 in the second, to advance to the final.

The Iranian fighter will now compete for the gold medal against the winner of the other semifinal between China and Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, Saina Karimi began her campaign in the women’s under-49kg category with a two-round victory over Siu Wai Lam of Hong Kong.

Karimi advanced to the quarterfinals but was eliminated by Japan’s Roka Okamoto in a 2-1 defeat.

Karimi was leading 3-1 in the third round when she suffered a serious leg injury after exchanging kicks.

Despite attempting to continue, she was unable to carry on and withdrew while trailing 15-6.

In the men’s competition, Abolfazl Zandi advanced from his opening bout in the under-58kg category after defeating Tajikistan’s Shokhratzod Luijoni in two straight rounds.

Zandi’s campaign ended in the quarterfinals, however, as he lost 2-0 to Kazakhstan’s Tamerlan Tello Les and missed out on a place in the semifinals.

Elsewhere, Amir Sina Bakhtiari was eliminated in the men’s under-80kg category after losing in two straight rounds to China’s Xiang in his opening bout.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are being held from September 19 to October 4 at venues across Japan, bringing together around 17,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries and regions across 43 sports.

Iran is represented by a 305-member athlete delegation competing in 38 sports under the name “Minab Angels,” a tribute to the victims of the US-Israeli aggression on Shajareh Tayyebe Elementary School in Minab on February 28.
