Iran’s Nokhodi Wins Asian Games Wrestling Gold as Zare Reaches 125kg Final

Nokhodi began his campaign with an 11-0 victory over Ryan Abouriala of Jordan before defeating Jeong Yeon Lee of South Korea 11-1 in the quarterfinals.

The Iranian wrestler continued his impressive run in the semifinals, beating Malik Shawaif of Kyrgyzstan 3-0 to secure his place in the final.

Nokhodi then defeated Hayato Ishigura of Japan 9-6 in the final to claim the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Zare advanced to the 125kg final after three convincing victories.

He opened with a 10-0 win over Taiki Yamamoto of Japan in the round of 16 and followed it with an 11-0 victory over Zhyamuhammad Saparov of Turkmenistan in just 70 seconds in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Zare overcame a 3-1 deficit against Kassymbek Yedige of Kazakhstan, leveling the score at 3-3 in the closing seconds to book his place in the final.

Elsewhere, Abbas Ebrahimzadeh finished fifth in the 65kg division after reaching the bronze-medal bout.

Ebrahimzadeh started with an 11-0 victory over Diushan Charles Fernando of Sri Lanka but was beaten 10-0 by Sujeet of India in the quarterfinals and moved into the repechage.

He then defeated Sayed Omar Zazi of Afghanistan 15-5 to reach the bronze-medal match, where he lost 3-2 to Paris Olympic champion Kotaro Kiyooka of Japan.

The Aichi-Nagoya Games are being held from September 19 to October 4 across venues in Japan, with around 17,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries and regions competing in 43 sports.

Iran's delegation, named “Minab Angels”—a tribute to the victims of the US-Israeli attack on Shajareh Tayyebe Elementary School in Minab on February 28—is competing at the Games with 305 athletes across 38 sports.
