Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the two sides discussed regional developments, Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability, and the consequences of continued Israeli attacks.

Highlighting the deep historical and cultural ties between Iran and Lebanon, Pezeshkian stressed the importance of friendly relations and constructive cooperation between the two countries. He also praised the Lebanese people’s resistance to Israeli occupation and aggression.

The Iranian president outlined the consequences of recent US and Israeli acts of aggression against Iran, warning that disregard for international law could further undermine regional and global security and stability.

Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s support for expanding relations with all regional countries while respecting their national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said Tehran remains committed to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and opposes coercion and pressure against independent states.

Salam, for his part, described Iran-Lebanon relations as deeply rooted in history and said Beirut seeks healthy, balanced and constructive relations with Tehran.

The Lebanese prime minister also outlined his government’s priorities, including ending the Israeli occupation, securing an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, halting attacks and aggression, and strengthening the authority and sovereignty of the Lebanese state.

The two sides also exchanged views on the latest regional and Lebanese developments and discussed ways to expand bilateral and regional cooperation in support of lasting peace, stability and security.
