Speaking after the conclusion of the BRICS summit in New Delhi on Sunday, Pezeshkian said the declaration of the summit reflected opposition to such attacks, as well as broader concern over unilateralism, occupation and violations of international law. He added that the participating countries emphasized the need to strengthen multilateralism and work toward a multipolar world.

Pezeshkian said the summit brought together the 11 main BRICS members and 10 countries seeking to join the group. He explained that the discussions focused on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability, with the participants exchanging views on how to advance these objectives and enhance their ability to withstand pressure.

He noted that opposition to unilateral sanctions and coercive measures was another shared position at the summit. The Iranian president said the participants also supported Iran’s accession to the World Trade Organization, while many leaders emphasized expanding trade in national and regional currencies and reducing dependence on the Western financial system.

Pezeshkian said the summit statement also addressed opposition to occupation, support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, condemnation of Israeli aggression, the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free region and the need to combat terrorism without double standards.

Referring to the situation in the region, Pezeshkian said no one could accept attacks on women, children, hospitals and civilian gathering places. He argued that the BRICS countries’ policies could help counter unilateralism and expressed hope that the group’s initiatives would reduce problems caused by US pressure and coercive policies around the world.

Pezeshkian said the summit created promising prospects for investment, financial exchanges and broader economic cooperation. He added that discussions were held on banking cooperation and the BRICS New Development Bank, expressing hope that the agreements and consultations would be followed up to further deepen relations among the participating countries.
