Esmaeil Baqaei made the remarks during a visit to Lamerd in Fars Province on September 12, where he paid tribute to the victims of the US and Israeli regime’s military aggression against Iran, visited damaged areas and inspected the sports hall targeted in the attack.

Upon his arrival in Lamerd, Baqaei was welcomed by local officials and a number of municipal and administrative directors. He subsequently visited the city’s martyrs’ cemetery and paid his respects to those killed in the US-Israeli military aggression.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed the need to explain the dimensions of the February 28 crime against the Iranian people to the world and called for its various aspects to be presented to international public opinion.

Baqaei then visited residential areas and the sports hall targeted in the February 28 attack, observing firsthand the damage and destruction left by the strikes.

Speaking at a press conference at the Lamerd sports hall attended by domestic and foreign journalists, Baqaei referred to the killing of 21 Lamerd residents in the US-Israeli military aggression and stressed the importance of documenting and recounting the human dimensions of the incident.

“Every single martyr of Lamerd is dear and precious to the Iranian nation, and their blood will not be in vain,” he said.

Baqaei described the targeting of civilians and residential areas as an explicit violation of international law and stressed that the dimensions of the attacks must be accurately, objectively and comprehensively explained to the Iranian and global public.

“What happened in Lamerd is not merely a local incident; rather, it is a clear example of the consequences of military attacks against civilian areas and ordinary people, and it is essential that the dimensions of this crime be properly recounted for international public opinion,” he said.

The spokesperson emphasized that documenting the attacks, collecting evidence, recording damages and preserving victims’ accounts are essential to pursuing the case.

“These documents can be used in raising the issue before international forums and institutions and in examining the responsibility of those who carried out the attacks,” Baqaei said.

He also announced that Iran is pursuing the legal case concerning the US attack on Lamerd through international forums. Baqaei stressed that the Iranian diplomatic apparatus would seriously pursue the demand for justice, accountability and punishment of those who ordered and carried out the Lamerd crime, using all available avenues.

He further underscored the need to prevent the distortion of facts concerning the attacks, saying that accurately recounting what happened to the people of Lamerd and documenting the deaths and consequences of the crime are part of the diplomatic apparatus’s responsibility to inform the world’s public opinion about the human dimensions of attacks against civilians.
