The commission made the statement during a briefing to the UN Human Rights Council as its 63rd regular session opened in Geneva on Monday and continues through Oct. 7.

“We are deeply concerned about the Israeli attacks on southern Syria and affirm that they constitute a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the commission said, according to Syria’s SANA news agency.

“This is unacceptable and must stop,” it added.

The UN body’s statement comes amid continued Israeli regime military operations in southern Syria, where areas including Quneitra and Daraa provinces have witnessed repeated incursions, raids on homes, the establishment of checkpoints, arrests and shelling.

Meanwhile, the Israeli regime continues to occupy most of Syria’s Golan Heights, a territory it seized in 1967.

Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government on Dec. 8, 2024, Israel declared the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement collapsed and expanded its military presence by occupying the demilitarized buffer zone and additional positions, including the Syrian side of Mount Hermon (Jabal al-Sheikh).
