In a statement on Telegram, he called his move a “political decision,” Anadolu Agency reported.

“I do not want the position of prosecutor general to be used as a tool of political confrontation,” he said, adding his position regarding the allegations remained unchanged.

Kravchenko thanked President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, for their trust and asked lawmakers to accept his resignation.

The resignation followed searches conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) at premises used by Kravchenko, his first deputy Maria Vdovychenko and other staff at the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The searches were part of Operation Carthage, an investigation into an alleged criminal organization suspected of taking bribes from fraudulent call centers in exchange for allowing them to operate without interference.

Kravchenko denied involvement in the alleged scheme and said the accusations against him had not been substantiated.

The investigation also led to the detention of Serhii Kropyva, deputy head of the Prosecutor General’s Office’s Department of International Legal Cooperation. A court on Sept. 6 ordered him held in custody with bail set at 120 million hryvnias ($2.7 million).
