In a post written in Korean language on his X account on Monday, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei stressed the longstanding history of Iran-South Korea relations, but cautioned Seoul against yielding to US pressure and becoming involved in military operations in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.

Baqaei said Iran’s relations with the Republic of Korea have a history of more than 64 years and have consistently developed on the basis of mutual respect, emphasizing that Tehran attaches great importance to its friendly ties with Seoul.

However, he warned that while the Iranian people are defending themselves against US aggression and responding to US war crimes against women and children, the military presence or participation of any other country in operations in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz would necessarily be regarded as direct support for the party responsible for the aggression and would have serious consequences.

Baqaei further said that no sovereign and responsible country should succumb to US pressure and threats and become complicit in acts of aggression and horrific crimes against the Iranian people.

The warning came after Seoul said it was reviewing various options for contributing to freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway, while stressing that no final decision has been made.
