Addressing a conference in Tehran on Wednesday, Pezeshkian praised the resilience of various segments of Iranian society during the recent US-Israeli war of aggression.
“But war is not always the solution,” the president said, stressing that problems that can be resolved through reason and diplomacy should not be addressed through confrontation.
He added that Iran can overcome its current circumstances through “prudence and thought” and move toward dignity and national pride.
Pezeshkian also praised the Islamabad memorandum of understanding as a source of pride for the Islamic Republic, saying Iran has been recognized as the victor of the confrontation in global analyses.
Referring to a directive from Imam Ali (PBUH) to his governor Malik al-Ashtar concerning peace, Pezeshkian said that a peace proposal made by the enemy should not be rejected when it serves God’s satisfaction, because peace brings relief to soldiers and security to the people and markets.
At the same time, he stressed the need for vigilance after reaching peace. Pezeshkian explained that Imam Ali (PBUH), after advising acceptance of peace, repeatedly warned against becoming complacent because an enemy could approach and launch a surprise attack.
He said this warning should not be interpreted as opposition to peace, but rather as a call to act with prudence, sound judgment, caution and foresight.
Although Iran does not trust the enemy, Tehran will seek to overcome the crisis through prudent measures, he said.
The president noted that some forces do not want Iran to become powerful, but stated that the country can move forward through wise policymaking, following the guidance of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and coordination among the heads of the three branches of government.
