“At least four armoured vehicles entered the premises, accompanied by more than 50 Israeli security personnel,” UNRWA told Arab News.

“UNRWA condemns today’s unauthorized entry into the KTC. The Kalandia Training Center is a UN facility enjoying privileges and immunities under international law. It is UNRWA’s oldest vocational training center.

Over seven decades, thousands of Palestine Refugees have graduated from the center and have subsequently joined local and regional job markets. Each year, the center serves hundreds of Palestine refugee students from refugee camps across the West Bank, many of whom face difficult socio-economic conditions and the Agency provides them with free education,” said UNRWA.

“UNRWA urges the international community to immediately intervene to safeguard the inviolability of this and other UN facilities in East Al-Quds, and to ensure the continuation of critical UNRWA services to Palestine Refugee communities,” they added.

Meanwhile, Ben-Gvir Minister of National Security of Israel posted a photo of the campus on X and said “UNRWA in our hands.”

In January, the Israeli regime demolished UNRWA’s headquarters in East Al-Quds following legislation banning the agency’s operations in Israel and East Al-Quds.

Roland Friedrich, director of UN Relief and Works Agency affairs in the West Bank, described the latest action as a blatant violation of international law.

The United Nations views East Al-Quds as part of the occupied Palestinian territory and under the jurisdiction of the West Bank, while Israeli authorities claim the area as part of Israel to justify their military campaigns there.

In October 2024, the Israeli Knesset passed legislation banning UNRWA from operating in East Al-Quds and the Palestinian territories.

“The Israeli parliament issued two laws a bit more than a year and a half ago. Both laws are in violation of international law. One of them is a ban on UNRWA activity within the sovereign territory of the state of Israel, which from Israel’s perspective includes occupied East Al-Quds,” explained Friedrich.

Separately, the Israeli regime on Tuesday announced the seizure of UNRWA’s Qalandia Training Center north of occupied East al-Quds, prompting the Palestinian presidency to call for urgent action by the UN Security Council.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the al-Quds Municipality had begun work to establish a new educational and community complex in the Kafr Aqab neighborhood that it claimed would serve thousands of Palestinian residents.

The ministry alleged that the site had been owned by the Jewish National Fund since 1937 and had been allocated to the al-Quds Municipality for the project.

It said the planned complex is expected to include additional schools, a mosque, sports facilities and health facilities in the coming years.

The Israeli regime also claimed that UNRWA had fenced off the land for decades despite having no ownership rights over it.

The ministry cited legislation passed by the Israeli Knesset in October 2024 banning the agency’s activities in Israel.

UNRWA, however, maintains that the Qalandia Training Center is a UN facility protected under international law.
