Qalibaf made the remarks in Iraq’s Karbala during a ceremony marking the 40th day since the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
He said the history of Iran and Iraq would record that the two nations refused to become “footnotes to other people’s narratives” and would instead work together to strengthen security, economic welfare and development.
Qalibaf said Iran and Iraq have managed to establish security in their countries through resistance, steadfastness and mutual assistance, and should now join forces to achieve economic prosperity and development.
He said Iran and Iraq have demonstrated their brotherhood during the most difficult days and would continue to stand together on the path toward success.
Qalibaf noted that the deep ties between Iran and Iraq are rooted in their shared history, geography and religious beliefs, warning their enemies that any attempt to sow division between the two countries would only bring Tehran and Baghdad closer together.
“Through their shared steadfastness, Iran and Iraq will not allow foreign capitals to decide their fate,” Qalibaf stressed.
