Iran, EU Discuss Regional Developments

During a telephone conversation on Saturday night, Araqchi briefed the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on the latest regional developments following the United States' breach of commitments and violation of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.

The Iranian foreign minister also criticized the irresponsible approach of European countries toward regional developments and the European Union's interventionist positions on Iran.

He said the EU, because of its double standards, support for "occupation and genocide," and its positions regarding the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, lacks the moral standing to lecture others on human rights.

Araqchi also referred to the Ukrainian government's highly dangerous attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, saying the European Union, as a supporter of Ukraine, bears responsibility and warning that such actions could have unpredictable consequences for regional and international peace and security.

For her part, Kallas voiced concern about any further expansion of the conflict and stressed the importance of continued consultations between the European Union and Iran to help prevent further escalation of tensions.
