During a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Faili al-Zaidi in Baghdad on Tuesday, President Pezeshkian expressed his appreciation to the Iraqi government and people for their dignified hosting of the funeral processions and commemorative ceremonies for the martyred Leader.

He said Iraq’s hospitality reflected the deep historical, cultural, and religious bonds between the two neighboring nations and symbolized Islamic solidarity.

Highlighting the positive course of bilateral ties, the Iranian president called for broader cooperation in areas of mutual interest. He also invited the Iraqi prime minister to visit Tehran, saying such a trip could open a new chapter in political, economic, security, and regional relations.

Referring to recent regional developments, Pezeshkian stressed the importance of preserving stability, security, and lasting peace. He said Iran has consistently honored its international commitments in good faith but noted that the US has repeatedly failed to uphold its obligations, adding that the Islamic Republic will not tolerate violations of agreements or departures from agreed commitments.

Prime Minister al-Zaidi, for his part, offered condolences over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, saying the Iraqi government and people regarded participation in the funeral ceremonies as a moral and religious duty. He described the martyred Leader as a transformative figure in the Islamic world.

The Iraqi prime minister also reaffirmed Baghdad’s commitment to expanding strategic cooperation with Iran on the basis of mutual respect, shared interests, and good-neighborly relations.
