IRGC Adviser Sees Martyred Leader’s Funeral as Historic Milestone

Hamid Reza Moqaddamfar, the media adviser to the IRGC commander, made the remarks in an interview with Tasnim on the sidelines of the funeral procession for Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran on Monday, July 6.

He said the "cohesive and unprecedented" participation of the Iranian people in the funeral procession for the martyred Leader constituted "an unparalleled event in the history of the Islamic Revolution," adding that it vividly portrayed the nation’s indescribable devotion, passion, and awareness.

The adviser said that amid the atmosphere of profound grief, what brought solace to the bereaved and ensured the steadfast continuation of the revolutionary path was the worthy selection of Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

He added that the Iranian people's pledge of allegiance during Monday's ceremony "placed a seal of approval on this new beginning."

Moqaddamfar stressed that the historic gathering in Tehran "is not an end, but rather a historical milestone and the beginning of a new chapter for the front of truth."

The martyred Leader had, during his 37 years of "wise leadership," laid out the intellectual foundations, the roadmap, and the Second Phase of the Revolution Statement, he added.

"Today, with this magnificent funeral procession, the movement alongside Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei toward the practical realization of those ideals has officially begun," he stated.

The main funeral procession for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution began in Tehran on Monday morning, with large crowds taking to the streets from the early hours to participate in the historic ceremony.

The funeral ceremonies officially began on July 3, when foreign dignitaries and official delegations from across the region and beyond arrived in Tehran to pay tribute to the late Leader.

On July 4 and 5, millions of mourners attended the farewell ceremonies at Tehran's Grand Musalla. Funeral prayers for the martyred Leader and members of his family were held at the Musalla on July 5 with the participation of senior Iranian officials.

Following Tuesday's ceremonies in Qom, funeral and tribute events will continue in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday at the request of Iraqi religious and political leaders, before concluding with the burial of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad on Thursday.

Ayatollah Khamenei was martyred in a joint US-Israeli strike on Tehran on February 28, 2026, at the outset of a 40-day war of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

His assassination triggered widespread condemnation and mourning across Iran and the Axis of Resistance, with participants in the funeral ceremonies carrying red flags as a declaration that the demand for justice and retribution for the martyred Leader remains alive.
