A large number of people had started to take to the streets to attend the grand funeral ceremony since the early hours of Monday.
The funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader officially began on Friday, with foreign dignitaries and official delegations from across the region and beyond paying tribute.
On the weekend, millions of people attended the farewell ceremony for the martyred Leader at the Imam Khomeini Musalla (prayer hall) in the capital.
Crowds poured into the Musalla throughout Saturday and Sunday as Quran recitations and elegies filled the prayer hall, creating an atmosphere of profound mourning and unwavering resolve.
The ritual of funeral prayers for martyred Leader and martyred members of his family was held at the Musalla Sunday morning with the participation of senior officials.
After the main funeral procession on Monday, the cortege will travel to the holy city of Qom on Tuesday. Funeral and tribute ceremonies will then continue in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday at the request of Iraqi religious and political leaders, before concluding with the burial of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad on Thursday.
Ayatollah Khamenei was martyred in a joint US-Israeli strike on Tehran on February 28, 2026, at the outset of a 40-day war of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
His assassination triggered widespread condemnation and mourning across Iran and the Axis of Resistance, with participants in the funeral ceremonies portraying the red flags as a declaration that the demand for justice and retribution for the martyred Leader remains alive.
