Pezeshkian made the remarks on Friday during a meeting in Tehran with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz and his accompanying delegation, which traveled to the Iranian capital to attend a memorial ceremony for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Turkey’s condolences and support, saying the gesture reflected deep historical, cultural, and religious ties between the two neighboring Muslim nations. He stressed the need to expand bilateral relations and translate political goodwill into practical cooperation across economic, political, and other key sectors.
He strongly condemned the recent US and Israeli aggression against Iran, describing it as a violation of the UN Charter, international law, and humanitarian principles. He said the attacks resulted in the martyrdom of senior officials, military commanders, scientists, academics, and civilians, including schoolchildren, while accusing the perpetrators of falsely presenting themselves as defenders of human rights.
The president said the Israeli regime has long played a destabilizing role in the region and seeks to deepen divisions among Islamic countries. He stressed that greater unity among Muslim nations would reduce foreign interference and strengthen regional security and prosperity.
Pezeshkian added that Islamic countries share strong religious, cultural, and civilizational bonds that provide a solid foundation for cooperation in scientific, economic, political, cultural, and security fields, contributing to long-term stability and development.
For his part, Yilmaz conveyed condolences from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish people over the martyrdom of Iranian citizens during the conflict. He said the loss of civilians, including schoolchildren, had deeply saddened public opinion in Turkey.
He noted that Ankara had engaged in diplomatic efforts with regional partners, including Qatar and Pakistan, to help de-escalate tensions, and expressed hope that recent understandings would contribute to lasting peace in the region.
Yılmaz also pointed to the impact of regional instability on global energy routes and maritime security, including the Strait of Hormuz, and emphasized the importance of cooperation to safeguard economic stability.
He reaffirmed Turkey’s readiness to expand cooperation with Iran in trade, energy, transit, and investment, saying stronger bilateral relations would help reduce external interference and promote regional peace through dialogue and mutual trust. He also conveyed President Erdogan’s greetings and condolences to Iran’s leadership.
