Iran Consulting Regional States on Strait of Hormuz Management: Qalibaf

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi, who has traveled to Iran to attend the farewell and funeral ceremonies for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, held a meeting with Qalibaf on Friday on the sidelines of the event.

Welcoming the Iraqi parliamentary delegation, Qalibaf thanked Baghdad for participating in the funeral ceremonies.

He said the countries of the region have all suffered from the actions of the US and the Zionist regime, expressing hope that Iran’s resistance against the US-Israeli war of aggression, both militarily and politically, would contribute to greater stability and security across the region.

Referring to the management of the Strait of Hormuz, Qalibaf said important arrangements have been incorporated into the recent memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US.

He noted that under international law, administration of the strategic waterway should be jointly undertaken by the two coastal states, namely Iran and Oman.

Qalibaf added that Tehran is consulting the Persian Gulf littoral states, including Iraq, regarding the implementation of the arrangements.

For his part, Halbousi said he wished the meeting had taken place under better circumstances, but stressed that it was Iraq's duty and honor to participate in the funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader.

He also congratulated Iran on its victory in the recent 40-day war and offered condolences over the martyrdom of those killed during the conflict.

Describing Iran's resistance as "truly historic," the Iraqi parliament speaker also congratulated Qalibaf on the Islamabad MoU, saying the Iranian speaker had played an important role in achieving the memorandum of understanding.

He also conveyed the condolences of the Iraqi government and people over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

Halbousi said Iraq stood alongside Iran throughout the 40-day war, citing the close political, religious, and historical ties between the two countries. He noted that Iraq itself came under Israeli attacks during the conflict and suffered damages.

Expressing hope that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under the agreement would enable the resumption of oil exports, he said such a development could help compensate for the losses caused by the war.

The Iraqi parliament speaker added that both the Iraqi government and public had strongly condemned the 40-day war against Iran, expressing hope that the agreement would make the Zionist regime realize the consequences of its actions and open a new chapter for the Islamic Republic.

He also emphasized the strong solidarity between the Iranian and Iraqi peoples and voiced confidence that parliamentary cooperation between the two neighbors would continue to expand.
