Asked about the agreement signed between the Zionist regime and Lebanon with US mediation in Washington and the latest status of implementing the first clause of the Iran-US memorandum of understanding concerning the end of the war in Lebanon, Esmaeil Baqaei told reporters on Sunday that Iran, in line with its principled policy and in accordance with the UN Charter and fundamental rules of international law, emphasizes safeguarding Lebanon’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the dignity and security of all Lebanese people.
He said Iran considers these principles a necessary condition for the durability of any understanding aimed at ending the Zionist regime’s war and occupation against Lebanon.
Baqaei stated that this was why Iran, both in the April 8 ceasefire understanding and in the June 18, 2026 memorandum of understanding on ending the war, placed an end to the Israeli regime’s military operations in Lebanon alongside ending the war against Iran as one of its primary demands and has continued to insist on implementation.
The spokesperson underlined that the full implementation of the first clause of the memorandum of understanding --namely ending the Zionist regime’s military operations against Lebanon and ensuring the withdrawal of occupying forces from all occupied Lebanese territories-- is a necessary requirement for reaching a final and sustainable agreement to establish regional stability.
Referring to the US’ explicit commitment under the first clause of the June 18, 2026 memorandum, Baqaei stressed that Iran expects Washington to take all necessary measures to compel the Zionist regime to stop all military actions and attacks across Lebanon.
He also called for the swift establishment of a timetable for the unconditional withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas of Lebanon.
