Addressing the 20th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) in Baku on Wednesday, Qalibaf said recent regional developments, including a 40-day US-Israeli imposed war against Iran, showed that external military presence in West Asia has failed to bring stability and instead has become a source of insecurity.
He said Iran’s resistance during the conflict inflicted significant costs on the aggressors and ultimately frustrated their strategic objectives, noting that attempts to pressure Iran militarily, psychologically, and economically had failed to achieve desired outcomes.
Qalibaf stressed that the war was not only a military confrontation but also an effort to alter regional power balances and force political submission on Iran, adding that the outcome proved such calculations incorrect and demonstrated the strength of national resistance and unity.
He said the experience confirmed that lasting peace is not achieved through coercion or humiliation but through dignity, power, and mutual respect.
Referring to diplomatic developments, the Iranian speaker stated that the Islamabad MoU was the result of Iran’s resilience rather than pressure, and said it effectively marked a setback for US attempts to impose its will.
Qalibaf emphasized that Iran supports dialogue and diplomacy based on equality and respect for sovereignty, while insisting that defense capability, national cohesion, and diplomacy are complementary pillars of security.
He reiterated Iran’s proposal for regional security arrangements managed by regional states themselves, saying no country can achieve security through the insecurity of others, and calling for the use of the Islamic world’s economic, energy, and human capacities for shared development.
The Iranian parliament speaker also expressed readiness for security agreements with Islamic and regional countries, particularly in the Persian Gulf, based on cooperation and economic integration.
He further highlighted Iran’s support for ending foreign military presence in the region, saying external bases have not contributed to stability.
On Palestine, Qalibaf stressed that no regional security architecture can be complete without addressing the “unresolved Palestinian issue,” describing support for Palestinian rights as a matter of justice and regional stability.
He concluded that Iran seeks expanded cooperation with Islamic countries on the basis of mutual respect, non-interference, and good neighborliness, and called for stronger unity among Muslim nations in addressing shared challenges.
