Iran Sees PUIC Summit as Opportunity to Strengthen Muslim Unity

Upon arriving in Baku on Wednesday, Qalibaf met with Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Musa Jafar oglu Gasimli and expressed satisfaction with visiting the neighboring and friendly country.
Referring to ongoing developments in the region, the Iranian parliament speaker expressed hope that the 20th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States would contribute to strengthening unity and closer coordination among Muslim nations.
Qalibaf wished success for the people and parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan and said that despite a demanding schedule, he considered participation in the summit a valuable opportunity to consolidate relations with member states, particularly the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He also extended condolences to the Azerbaijani nation on the mourning days of the month of Muharram.
For his part, Musa Gasimli said Baku does not support war in neighboring countries under any circumstances.
“If something happens in a neighbor’s house, neighboring countries will not enjoy peace either,” he said, adding that prosperity and development are rooted in good neighborly relations.
Gasimli highlighted the positive state of economic cooperation and expanding parliamentary ties between Iran and Azerbaijan Republic and stressed that Azerbaijan would not allow its territory to be used to harm neighboring countries.
He also said that Islam emphasizes unity, cooperation, and brotherhood and described the month of Muharram as a symbol of solidarity among Muslims.
Welcoming the end of the recent war of aggression against Iran and emphasizing the importance of peace, the Azerbaijani official said Qalibaf’s participation in the summit would contribute to the expansion of bilateral relations and produce positive outcomes.
