Montreal police said they responded to a call at around 11:30 am local time at the intersection of De Courtrai and Trans Island avenues in the Cote-des-Neiges neighborhood, Xinhua reported.

Police later confirmed on X the death of one of the responding officers while on duty.

Another officer was critically injured and remained in life-threatening condition, a civilian was also killed, and the suspect was shot dead, police said.
