Iran Reminds US of Conditions for Deal

Araqchi and Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow met on Thursday on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi to discuss bilateral relations, regional developments, and the latest situation following the recent US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran.

Referring to the friendly relations between Iran and Thailand, Araqchi explained the latest regional developments following the military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran.

Pointing to Washington’s record of violating commitments regarding the nuclear agreement, the Iranian foreign minister said, “Over the past year, the Americans betrayed the path of diplomacy twice and launched military attacks against Iran in the middle of negotiations.”

Araqchi described the changing positions of the US, as well as the destructive role of some third parties, as among the main obstacles to reaching an understanding for the definitive end of the war.

“The condition for reaching an agreement is that the US reach the firm conclusion that the goals it failed to achieve through war will not be attainable through negotiations either, and it must refrain from pursuing maximalist demands,” he stressed.

The Iranian foreign minister also emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation among regional countries as a guarantor of lasting security and stability in the Persian Gulf.

For his part, the Thai foreign minister referred to the economic consequences of the US-Israeli war on Iran and the sharp increase in the prices of oil, energy, chemical fertilizers, and other essential goods, stressing that Thailand supports any initiative that contributes to stability, calm, and the reduction of tensions in the region.

Phuangketkeow also emphasized his country’s determination to continue and expand Thailand’s longstanding friendly relations with Iran.
