Babak Alipoor and Pooya Qobadi, identified as armed elements of the MKO terrorist group and as enemy operatives inside the country who had participated in multiple terrorist operations in Tehran, were hanged on Tuesday, March 31, following the completion of legal procedures and the confirmation of their sentences by Iran’s Supreme Court.
The convicts had established contact with handlers of the MKO terrorist group and, with the aim of undermining the country’s security, carried out attacks on sensitive centers and public places using launcher-type firearms.
Babak Alipoor was described as an organizational member of the MKO terrorist group who had maintained links with the group in previous years. His father had also been among the group’s members in the 1980s.
He had reportedly connected to MKO handlers through cyberspace and a channel affiliated with the terrorist group, maintaining contact until his arrest.
At the request of his handler, Alipoor traveled from Gilan to Tehran to carry out a terrorist attack using a launcher against a sensitive location. After coordinating with an operational accomplice, he fired four launcher rounds at the building of a state institution, of which two were effective.
During an inspection of the safe house where Alipoor had been staying, equipment for manufacturing explosive junction devices was discovered.
He had also, along with other MKO members, attacked the entrance of the Ministry of Intelligence building using a launcher.
Pooya Qobadi, another member of the terrorist group, was also executed on Tuesday morning. He had taken part in multiple terrorist operations under the direction of the MKO and carried out numerous actions against the country’s security.
He was arrested by intelligence forces while assembling parts of explosive devices in a team house associated with the terrorist group.
The charges against the convicts included direct involvement in multiple terrorist acts and explosions under the direction of the MKO terrorist group, use of launcher weapons, illegal exit from the country, membership in the MKO, forming groups with the aim of disrupting national security through organized and deliberate contact with MKO handlers, carrying out disruptive acts in support of the group with the goal of overthrowing the Islamic Republic, and destruction of public property using launcher weapons.
