Despite US President Donald Trump's assurances that on March 23 he ordered a five-day suspension of attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure, which remained mere empty words, the attack took place the very next day.
The ministry stated it was extremely outraged by this reckless and irresponsible manifestation of a destructive course.
It added that it created the impression that the aggressors were deliberately seeking to provoke a large-scale nuclear catastrophe in the region in order to conceal and justify their criminal actions, which had already caused numerous innocent victims among the peaceful Iranian population.
In Washington and Tel Aviv they should understand no worse than we do that a direct hit on the Bushehr nuclear power plant would inevitably lead to irreversible humanitarian and environmental consequences.
So far, only by a miracle has a tragedy been avoided, the statement said.
However, the strikes are being delivered ever closer to the operating power unit.
The lives of the station's personnel, including Russian specialists, are under constant threat, the ministry said.
The ministry demanded that those who launched an unprovoked and unmotivated attack on Iran return to reason, stop the aggression, including strikes on Iranian nuclear energy infrastructure covered by the IAEA Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, as well as on facilities located in its immediate vicinity.
It called for an immediate reaction from international organizations to the incident.
The Bushehr plant, Iran's only operating nuclear power station built with Russian assistance, houses Russian specialists among its staff.
Russian officials have repeatedly warned against any military actions that could endanger the facility and risk a radiological or ecological disaster in the region.
No immediate response to the Russian statement was available from US or Israeli officials.
Separately, the Russian Foreign Ministry has on previous occasions strongly condemned earlier strikes near the Bushehr site and urged the IAEA to provide a clear assessment of the threats to the facility.
