In a telephone conversation on Sunday, Pezeshkian and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed regional developments following an imposed and illegal war by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.
Pezeshkian stated that the United States, for a second time during negotiations, launched an unlawful attack against Iran in coordination with the Israeli regime, describing the move as a violation of international law. He also referred to attacks on civilian targets, including schools, hospitals, and critical infrastructure.
The Iranian president emphasized that all actions taken by Iran are within the framework of self-defense. He warned that any involvement by other countries, including France, whether offensive or defensive, in support of the attackers would be regarded as direct participation in the war, his official website reported.
Such actions would only complicate and escalate the situation in the region, Pezeshkian added, stressing that the Iranian government, people, and Armed Forces remain firmly determined to defend the country.
For his part, Macron expressed regret over the loss of Iranian civilians and stated that France considers the attacks inconsistent with international law, adding that his country has no involvement in the conflict.
The two presidents also discussed consular matters, including issues related to citizens detained in both countries.
