Speaking in an interview on Saturday, Ali Larijani said that the main goal of the US and its allies was to disintegrate Iran but the solidarity shown by the Iranian nation and the management of the country in time of war have thwarted their plot.

“In recent days, Donald Trump and his associates, as well as the Zionists (Israel) and some regional actors, explicitly stated their main goal in their speeches. Their main goal was actually to disintegrate Iran,” Larijani said.

“Their goal was not merely to create a minor change in Iran. From Israel’s perspective regarding a great country like Iran, this (minor change) has essentially no meaning. Therefore, their goal was the disintegration of Iran. Their mains concern is Iran itself,” he added.

Referring to statements made by the US president and his post in social media claiming that Iran is disintegrating, Larijani stated, “This shows that their main goal from the beginning (of the war) has been to create condition for the disintegration of Iran.”

He referred to miscalculations of the US and added, “In my view, the most important problem for the Americans is that they do not currently understand the West Asia region, and Iran in particular.”

“They think that the same patterns they have experienced in some countries like Venenzuela can be repeated in Iran, whereas, the conditions are totally different here.”

The secretary of the Supreme National Security Council added, “They wanted to break the spirit of the Iranian nation by creating a heavy shock, but this did not happen because the Iranian nation has deep historical and cultural experiences.”

Larijani at the same time noted that there may be differences of opinion within the country, but Iranians are ultimately Iranians and will not cooperate with any foreign power on an issue such as dividing Iran.

“The Iranian people have seen the experience of American interference in the region; interference in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries is before the eyes of the nations of the region, and everyone knows that these actions were taken not out of compassion for the people, but for their own interests."

Elsewhere, Larijani pointed to enemies’ plot to create discord among Iranian nation, adding, “One of the tactics that the Americans had invested heavily in was to create divisions and discord within Iran. They believed that natural differences in society could turn into political and social divisions."

“But” he noted “the reality is that the people of Iran may have different views, but they are united on the issue of Iran and the territorial integrity of the country.”

The top Iranian security official also underlined Iran’s friendship with the neiboring states, but warned that “if in this war a base is given to the United States and that base is used to launch operations against Iran, the Islamic Republic has the right to respond, and this is a legal and non-negotiable right.”

“The countries of the region should know that they cannot both declare their alignment with Iran and allow the bases to be used against Iran.”

He added, ”Iran clearly declares that if regional bases are used against Iran, the necessary response will be given, and this policy will continue to be sustainable.”
