US Starts Pullout from Key Syria Base As Forces Head to Iraqi Kurdistan

According to the report, the withdrawal is underway from the Qasrak base in northwestern Hasakah province, described as the largest US military facility in Syria.

The operation to pull out from the base started on Feb. 23, 2026, and is continuing, with approximately 100 trucks and heavy vehicles moving through the al-Walid crossing toward Iraqi Kurdistan, the network said.

Qasrak base is located in the northwestern countryside of Hasakah.

More broadly, the United States has gradually withdrawn in recent months — particularly since late 2025 and into February 2026 — from several key military installations in Syria, transferring troops and equipment mainly to Iraq’s Kurdistan region, including areas such as Erbil or nearby bases, according to the report.

The redeployment is part of a broader plan to relocate about 1,000 remaining US troops from Syria over the next two months, or by around April 2026.

Separately, the United States has withdrawn from the al-Tanf base in southeastern Syria, near the Syria-Iraq-Jordan border triangle, and from the al-Shaddadi base in southern Hasakah in northeastern Syria, handing the facilities over to forces of the Jolani government, the report said.

US forces have also pulled back or reduced operations at several other sites in northeastern Syria, including some positions near Rmeilan.

The repositioning of US troops follows political and military changes in Syria after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government, including an agreement to integrate part of the Syrian Democratic Forces into the Syrian army and a decision by the Trump administration to reduce the US military presence in the region, according to the report.
