UAE Thwarts Cyber Attacks Targeting Critical Infrastructure

The report did not identify those responsible for the attacks.

According to the state news agency, the operations sought to destabilize the country and disrupt essential services by targeting national digital platforms and important technical systems.

The attacks "included attempts to infiltrate networks, deploy ransomware and conduct systematic phishing campaigns targeting national platforms," and involved artificial intelligence technologies to develop offensive tools, the agency said.

In response, the cybersecurity council affirmed the safety and security of individuals and said vital services continued without disruption.

The national cybersecurity and cyber-defense system operates around the clock, coordinating with service providers as well as national and international entities and specialized organizations to strengthen protection and accelerate recovery, it said.

The council added that the use of artificial intelligence to develop complex offensive tools reflected an evolution in the methods used by terrorist groups and their ability to exploit modern technologies in carrying out digital attacks.
