Lami Abu Halu, a reporter in Ramallah, reported that Abu Ayyash, a correspondent for the Tasnim News Agency in the West Bank, was arrested when Israeli regime forces stormed her family home in the village of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron.
She was subsequently transferred to the Al-Maskobiyah detention center in northern occupied Al-Quds, where she has been subjected to torture, abuse, and humiliation.
In this context, Hassan Abadi, her lawyer, who represents numerous Palestinian detainees, described her treatment after visiting her in Israeli detention facilities.
Abadi stated that Abu Ayyash spent 53 days in solitary confinement at the Al-Maskobiyah detention center before being transferred to Sharon Prison and later to Damon Prison.
He said that during her time in solitary confinement she was continuously insulted and beaten.
He added that she was subjected multiple times to strip searches carried out in a degrading manner, accompanied by verbal abuse directed at her and her family.
According to Abadi, what Abu Ayyash has endured reflects the broader reality faced by Palestinian women detainees inside Israeli regime prisons, where conditions are described as severe and punishing.
He noted that reports from these prisons have become increasingly alarming, particularly amid the continued use of torture and punitive measures against female detainees since the start of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7, 2023.
Furthermore, Abadi said that Palestinian women prisoners are being held under extremely harsh conditions.
In many cases, ten women are confined to a single cell, with space allowing only four to sleep on the floor at the same time.
He added that the cells are kept at very cold temperatures, and conditions in Carmel Prison are even more severe.
Regarding contact with the outside world, Abadi said Palestinian male and female detainees are completely cut off.
He stated that family visits are not permitted and that no meetings with relatives take place at all.
He added that detainees are not allowed to make phone calls, even to their parents.
He further stated that the International Committee of the Red Cross is not present, and no independent body is allowed access, increasing the isolation of Palestinian detainees.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli regime has imposed measures under what it calls a “state of emergency” inside its prisons.
These measures include banning representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross from visiting Palestinian male and female detainees.
