The new round of talks will take place in Geneva at around 9 am local time on Tuesday. Similar to the previous round, the negotiations will be conducted indirectly and mediated by Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi at the Omani embassy in Geneva.
The focus of the second round will remain nuclear-related issues. It is likely that uranium enrichment and its levels, as well as the removal of sanctions and Iran’s economic benefits, will be examined.
The Iranian negotiating delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. The delegation also includes Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Hamid Qanbari, along with a number of technical, economic, and legal experts.
On the US side, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are leading the American negotiating team.
According to Iranian officials, the full removal of sanctions constitutes an inseparable part of any diplomatic process, and the presence of economic and technical experts in this round of negotiations reflects that position.
Iran has reviewed the return to the diplomatic track with the United States within the framework of regional efforts to reduce tensions. The decision was made following contacts and consultations by several regional countries with President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which they emphasized dialogue as the only path to managing differences.
Tehran agreed to engage in the talks only after receiving a message from the other side that the negotiations would be confined solely to the nuclear file. Through regional intermediaries, Iran set two conditions for holding new talks with the US, both of which were accepted by Washington: recognition of the principle of enrichment and limiting the negotiations exclusively to nuclear matters.
The previous round of talks was held in Muscat on February 6.
